Wealth Management in Matawan

Your accounts, insurance and tax decisions work best when someone looks at them together. We start by finding out what is actually holding your money back, then manage your wealth as one plan that keeps pace with your family and your goals.

What wealth management means here

Wealth management is ongoing, coordinated care for everything you have built. Instead of a brokerage account in one place, a 401(k) from an old job in another and a life policy nobody has reviewed in years, you get one plan and one person watching how the pieces affect each other.

Many people come to us with a symptom: returns that feel flat, a tax bill that surprised them, or a sense that they own too many accounts to keep straight. The symptom is rarely the real problem. So before we suggest any change, we look underneath it. Sometimes the cause is an investment mix that drifted, sometimes it is cash sitting idle, and sometimes it is simply that nobody connected your retirement timeline to your portfolio.

It tends to be the right call once your finances have more than a couple of moving parts, such as a business, an inheritance, a pension decision or children you want to provide for.

What our wealth management covers

A full inventory first

We collect statements for every account, policy and plan you hold and lay them side by side. You see, often for the first time, what you own, what it costs and how it is positioned.

Investment oversight

We manage your portfolio around your goals and timeline, and rebalance when it drifts. Our advisor is Series 7 licensed, so we can work directly with the securities in your accounts. Our investment management page goes into more detail.

Retirement coordination

Your savings, Social Security timing and withdrawal order are planned together. That work is guided by our Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC) designation.

Insurance review

We check whether your coverage still fits your family and your debts. If a gap turns up, we can walk you through life insurance options and help arrange coverage, and our life insurance consulting page explains more.

Tax-aware decisions

We watch which accounts hold which investments and when gains are taken, and we coordinate with your tax preparer. Our tax management page covers this in depth.

Regular check-ins

Life changes, and so does the plan. We meet at our office or by phone and video to review progress and adjust.

Signs it may be time for wealth management

Accounts scattered everywhere
Old 401(k)s, a few IRAs and a brokerage account you rarely open. When nobody sees the whole picture, overlap and hidden fees go unnoticed.
A tax bill you did not expect
Surprise taxes from fund distributions or poorly timed sales usually point to accounts that were never planned together.
A major life change
Selling a business, receiving an inheritance, a divorce or a new grandchild can reshape what your money needs to do.
Retirement is getting close
In the last ten years before you stop working, the order and timing of decisions start to matter far more than picking the next fund.
You are not sure what you own
If you could not explain your investment mix to a family member, that is a good reason to sit down with someone who can.

What working together looks like

  1. 1

    A first conversation

You tell us what prompted the call, what you hope your money will do and what keeps you up at night. We explain how we operate so you can judge the fit. You do not need to bring paperwork to this meeting.

  2. 2

    Finding the real cause

We go through your statements, policies and recent tax returns to see what is actually happening. Then we share what we found in plain language, including the parts that are already working well.

  3. 3

    Building your plan

Our recommendations tie together your investments, retirement, insurance and taxes. We take you through each change and the reason behind it, and nothing moves until you say yes.

  4. 4

    Ongoing management

We put the plan into action, keep an eye on it and sit down with you on a regular schedule. When your life or the markets shift, we revisit the plan before reacting.

What affects the cost of wealth management

The cost depends on how much there is to manage and how much coordination your situation needs. We explain exactly how we are paid in plain terms before you commit to anything, so there are no surprises later. You will get those details by phone and at your introductory meeting.

Size of your portfolio
The amount of assets we oversee is usually the largest factor in what ongoing management costs.
Number of accounts and owners
Coordinating accounts for a couple, a trust or a business takes more time than a single retirement account.
Complexity of your situation
Business ownership, stock compensation, rental property or an estate in transition all add planning work.
Services you need
Some clients want full coordination across investments, retirement and legacy planning. Others need focused help in one area.

Wealth management questions

How is wealth management different from financial planning?
Financial planning maps out your goals and the steps to reach them. Wealth management is the ongoing work of putting those steps into practice and adjusting them as your life changes. A lot of our clients start by building a plan with us, then ask us to manage it day to day after it is written.
Is there an account size that is too small for wealth management?
We do not use one dollar figure to decide. The better test is whether your finances have enough moving parts to benefit from coordinated management. If a simpler arrangement would serve you better, we will tell you plainly at the introductory meeting.
Will I have to move all my accounts?
Not necessarily. Some accounts, like the 401(k) at your current job, usually stay put, and we still factor them into your plan. We recommend consolidating only when it clearly makes things simpler or costs less, and we walk you through why.
Can you promise my investments will grow?
No honest advisor can promise returns. What we can do is shape a portfolio around your timeline and your comfort with risk, keep it on track and explain what is happening when markets move.
Do I have to come to your office?
You are always welcome at our office, and plenty of clients from Matawan and nearby towns like Aberdeen and Hazlet like to meet face to face. If your schedule is tight, we can meet by phone or video instead.
