Retirement Planning in Matawan
Most retirement worries come down to one question: will the money last? We answer it by starting with what you really spend and where your income will come from, then building a plan around those numbers instead of a rule of thumb.

A retirement plan that starts with your numbers
Retirement planning is the work of turning savings, pensions and Social Security into a paycheck you can count on for the rest of your life. It also covers the timing questions that are hard to undo later, like when to claim benefits, which accounts to draw from first and how to handle health coverage before Medicare starts at 65.
We start by finding out what is really going on. That means looking at your actual spending, not a percentage someone guessed, and spotting the true gap between the income you will have and the life you want. Once we know the real cause of a worry, the recommendation tends to be simpler and more useful.
As a Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC), our advisor has trained specifically in retirement income, benefits and distribution planning. We meet clients at our office or by phone and video, whichever is easier for you.
What retirement planning with us covers
A real spending picture
We go through what you spend today and sort it into what stays, what goes away and what grows in retirement, such as travel or health costs. This one step changes more plans than any investment choice.
Income mapping
We list every source of retirement income, including Social Security, pensions, annuities, part-time work and savings, and show when each one starts. You see month by month where the shortfall or surplus sits.
Social Security timing
Claiming anywhere from 62 to 70 can change your benefit for life. We compare the options for you, and for couples we look at how each choice affects the survivor.
Withdrawal order and taxes
Drawing from taxable, tax-deferred and Roth accounts in a sensible order can lower the taxes you pay over retirement. We coordinate this with our Tax Management work and plan ahead for required minimum distributions.
Portfolio and risk review
Being Series 7 licensed, our advisor can review your current investments and suggest how to adjust them as you move from saving to spending. The goal is enough stability to ride out a bad year without selling at the wrong time.
Protection gaps
Our advisor also holds a license to sell life insurance, which means an existing policy gets a straight look: keep it, trim it or let it go. If coverage needs a closer study, Life Insurance Consulting picks up from there.

Signs it is time to plan your retirement
- No monthly target yet
- Without a clear figure for what retirement will cost each month, a savings goal is only a hopeful estimate. Pinning down that figure is where we begin together.
- Retirement is five to ten years out
- This is the window where decisions about savings rates, debt payoff and investment risk have the most effect. Waiting until the last year leaves fewer good options.
- Several old accounts
- Old 401(k)s from past employers, an IRA here and a pension there are easy to lose track of. Pulling them into one clear picture often shows fees or overlaps you did not know about.
- A pension or buyout decision
- Choosing between a lump sum and monthly payments, or a single and joint benefit, is usually permanent. It deserves a careful look at your full situation first.
- Worry that will not go away
- Some clients have saved well and still lie awake about running out. Seeing the numbers laid out clearly is often what finally settles that.
How we build your retirement plan
- 1
Introductory meeting
We talk about where you are, what retirement looks like to you and what is worrying you most. You learn how we work and whether we are a good fit, with no pressure to decide anything.
- 2
Gathering the facts
You share statements, Social Security estimates, pension details and a rough spending picture. We help you find anything that is missing.
- 3
Finding the real gap
We run the numbers and pinpoint what actually stands between you and a comfortable retirement. Sometimes it is savings, often it is timing, taxes or spending that has drifted.
- 4
Your written plan
We walk you through clear recommendations with the reasons behind each one, and answer your questions until the plan makes sense to you.
- 5
Check-ins over time
Life changes, markets move and tax rules shift. We review the plan with you regularly so it keeps matching your goals.
What affects the cost of retirement planning
Fees depend on how much work your situation takes and how much ongoing help you want. During the introductory meeting we lay out how we are paid and what that covers, before you commit to anything. Nothing about the fee should come as a surprise later.
- How complex your finances are
- A couple with two workplace plans and Social Security is simpler than someone with a business, rental property, stock options and a pension. More moving parts take more analysis.
- One-time plan or ongoing advice
- Some clients want a single plan they carry out on their own. Others want us to manage investments and adjust the plan year after year, which is priced differently.
- Assets we manage
- If we oversee your portfolio, the size and makeup of those assets can affect the fee. We will walk through how that applies to your accounts.
- Extra planning areas
- Adding legacy planning, detailed tax projections or insurance review expands the scope. We only include the pieces your situation calls for.
Retirement planning questions
- How early should I start retirement planning?
- Any time is useful, but the decade before you retire is when planning pays off most. You still have time to adjust savings, risk and timing. If you are already retired, we can still improve how you draw income and manage taxes.
- What does CRPC mean?
- It stands for Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor, a designation focused on retirement income, benefits, estate and tax considerations. Our advisor holds it. In practice it means retirement planning is the center of what we do, not an add-on.
- Will you just try to sell me an annuity or insurance?
- No. We look at your spending and income first, and a product only comes up if it solves a problem we have both seen in the numbers. Many plans need nothing new at all, and we will tell you so.
- Can you help if my spouse and I are retiring at different times?
- Yes, and it is common. We plan around both timelines, including whose Social Security to claim first and how health coverage works if one of you retires before 65.
- Do I have to come to the office?
- No. Many clients from Matawan, Aberdeen, Hazlet and nearby towns meet with us at our office, and others prefer phone or video. The planning is the same either way.
