Investment Management in Matawan, NJ

We manage portfolios for individuals, couples, families and retirees. We start by finding out why your current investments behave the way they do, whether that's fees, overlap or risk you never chose. Once we see the cause, we build and run a portfolio that fits your goals.

What investment management means with us

Investment management is the ongoing work of choosing, monitoring and adjusting what you own so it keeps matching your goals. It is not a one-time pick of funds. Markets move and your life changes. A portfolio that made sense five years ago can drift into something you would never have chosen on purpose.

Before we suggest a single change, we look at everything you hold: 401(k)s, IRAs, brokerage accounts and old employer plans. Most people who reach out aren't short on investments. They have several accounts opened at different times for different reasons, and nobody has looked at them together. That review is usually where the real problem shows up.

We are Series 7 licensed, so we can place and manage securities trades for you, not just hand you a list of suggestions. Meetings happen at our Matawan office or by phone and video, whichever is easier for you.

What our investment management includes

A full review of every account
We gather your statements and map what you actually own. The funds inside a 401(k) often hold the same large companies as a brokerage account. You see the overlap, the costs and the real level of risk on one page.
An allocation set to your goals
We set a mix of stocks, bonds and cash based on when you'll need the money and how much swing you can live with. A college fund needed in six years is handled differently from retirement money you won't touch for twenty.
Trading and rebalancing
When your mix drifts away from its targets, we bring it back. We place the trades ourselves and explain changes in plain language.
A clear look at costs
Fund expense ratios, account fees and trading costs add up quietly. We list what you're paying now and point out where a lower-cost option does the same job.
Tax-aware placement
Where an investment sits matters. We consider which holdings belong in taxable accounts and which belong in IRAs, and we coordinate with our tax management work when it helps.
Regular check-ins
We review your portfolio with you on a schedule that suits you, measured against your goals rather than the headlines. If your job, family or retirement date changes, the portfolio changes with it.

Signs your portfolio needs a closer look

  • You can't say what you own

If listing your holdings would take an afternoon and five logins, there are probably gaps and overlaps nobody is watching.

  • Old 401(k)s from past jobs

Plans left at former employers often sit in default funds that no longer fit. They're easy to forget and simple to address once someone looks.

  • A market drop scared you

If a downturn pushed you to sell, or nearly did, your risk level may be higher than you realized. That's a diagnosis question before it's an investment question.

  • Retirement is getting close

In the years just before retirement, a large loss is harder to recover from. As a Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC), we look closely at how your portfolio will turn into steady income.

  • You don't know what you pay

If you can't find your total fees on a statement, it's worth finding out. Small percentages compound over long periods.

How we work with you

  1. 1

    Introductory meeting

We start with a conversation about your goals, your timeline and what's on your mind. You'll get a clear sense of how we work and whether we're a good fit.

  2. 2

    Account-by-account review

You share your statements and we go through every holding. We look for overlap, hidden costs, mismatched risk and anything that isn't serving a purpose.

  3. 3

    Findings and a proposed portfolio

We walk you through what we found and why it matters, then propose a portfolio built around your goals. Nothing moves until you agree to it.

  4. 4

    Ongoing management

We put the plan in place, monitor it and rebalance as needed. You hear from us at regular reviews and whenever a change in your life calls for a fresh look.

What affects the cost of investment management

What you pay depends on how the fee is structured and how much work your accounts need. We explain our fees at the start, in writing, so you know the cost before anything moves. We don't quote numbers until we've seen your situation, because the honest answer depends on it.

Size of the portfolio
Investment management fees are often figured as a percentage of the money being managed, so the amount you invest plays a large role.
Number and type of accounts
Bringing together several IRAs, a 401(k), a joint account and a trust takes more work than running a single brokerage account.
Complexity of your situation
Concentrated company stock, business ownership or large unrealized gains call for more careful planning before anything is sold.
Underlying fund costs
Fund expenses are separate from our fee. We show you both so you see the full picture.

Investment management questions

Something not covered here? (732) 739-7013

Do I have to move all my accounts to work with you?

No. Plenty of people hand us a single IRA or brokerage account first and bring the rest over once they're comfortable. During the review we still look at everything you hold, since a choice in one account changes what makes sense in another. You decide which accounts we manage.

Will you sell everything and start over?

Not by default. Selling can trigger taxes and costs, so we look at what each holding is doing first. Some things stay, some change gradually, and we explain the reason for each move.

Can you promise a certain return?

No one honestly can. Markets rise and fall. What we can do is build a portfolio that matches the risk you're comfortable with and the time you have, keep costs in view, and adjust as your life changes.

How is this different from financial planning?

Financial planning maps out your whole picture, including savings, retirement, college and insurance. Investment management is the hands-on work of running the portfolio that supports that plan. Many people use both, and our wealth management service brings them together.

Do I need to come to your office?

No. We meet at our office in Matawan or by phone and video. If you're in Aberdeen, Hazlet or Old Bridge, either option works just as well.
